Okay more people need to talk about this。 It seriously felt like a 3 parter from the show! Worth reading to find out what happens to Zuko's mom but damn, what a great story! april 17 - 17, 20214 stars。 took me 2 hours。 read the physical book。 the illustration was amazing, (view spoiler)[especially the mother of faces (hide spoiler)]。 the dialogue felt off but it seems to be a staple of reading this series in comic book/graphic novel form。 it was still a nice experience though。 april 17 - 17, 20214 stars。 took me 2 hours。 read the physical book。 the illustration was amazing, (view spoiler)[especially the mother of faces (hide spoiler)]。 the dialogue felt off but it seems to be a staple of reading this series in comic book/graphic novel form。 it was still a nice experience though。 。。。more

I was so excited to get this book because I finally get to know what happened to Zuko’s mom! I’ve avoided most spoilers about Ursa for years and finally getting to hear more about her story and what she went through was amazing。 Also, Mother of Faces is such a beautiful spirit。 I’m glad we got to meet her!

Read this just a week after I finished ATLA on Netflix and。。。 this was an immaculate graphic novel。 Not only did it tie up many of the loose ends left in the show, but it does so while also giving us insight on how the characters proceed and develop following the events that happened at the end of ATLA。 The illustrations are perfect and so artist notes on the side help add to the story。

Beautifully drawn and a really sad story。 The mystery of Zuko's mother was one I really wanted solved when watching the show。 This installment didn't wrap everything up neatly which is great because it leads into the next。 I didn't really notice the absence of Toph。 It felt like there was enough happening with the other characters。 Beautifully drawn and a really sad story。 The mystery of Zuko's mother was one I really wanted solved when watching the show。 This installment didn't wrap everything up neatly which is great because it leads into the next。 I didn't really notice the absence of Toph。 It felt like there was enough happening with the other characters。 。。。more

This comic answers the TV series' biggest question: where is Zuko's mom? This book creatively expands the lore surrounding the Fire Nation Royal family through beautiful panels and a poignant look at family: the good, the bad, and the ugly。 I'm a Zuko stan (first crush ayo) so being able to watch him explore a lot of the sticky family drama that wasn't explored quite as much in the series due to other plot priorities was simply the best。 One of my favs in the comic series so far! The Search is even better than The Promise, if not quite at the level of the animated series yet。 It tackles a difficult theme once again, this time a deeply troubled marriage, albeit extremely so: an arranged union in which the parents hate each other to the point of death threats and the kids follow their lead in an over-the-top sibling rivalry。 Eventually, Zuko and Azula find their mother, who has been hidden by a powerful primordial Spirit (the Mother of Faces), and now lives with the man sh The Search is even better than The Promise, if not quite at the level of the animated series yet。 It tackles a difficult theme once again, this time a deeply troubled marriage, albeit extremely so: an arranged union in which the parents hate each other to the point of death threats and the kids follow their lead in an over-the-top sibling rivalry。 Eventually, Zuko and Azula find their mother, who has been hidden by a powerful primordial Spirit (the Mother of Faces), and now lives with the man she has always loved, with a young child。 Zuko is happy to be reunited with his mother, who disappeared unexpectedly to protect him when he was a boy, but Azula finds no peace, still angry and struggling with the legacy of her power-hungry father。 Their tragically dysfunctional royal family reminded me a lot of Greek tragedy。 The kids seemed more interested in the Mother of Faces, which is probably a good thing。 And I’m deeply humbled that they associate me with uncle Ihro (except for the part that he seems to be in his 60s), my favorite character in the whole series。 。。。more

Hearing about Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise and The Search, the latter sounded more interesting。 In the last seconds of the last episode of ATLA, The Search was teased, and it felt like one of the few incomplete parts of the story。I was very pleasantly surprised by The Promise, tho。 Somehow I had forgotten all the post-coloniäl threads left hanging by ATLA but reading The Promise, I realized how necessary they were。 The Promise was like a fourth season (perhaps a slightly shorter one) Hearing about Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise and The Search, the latter sounded more interesting。 In the last seconds of the last episode of ATLA, The Search was teased, and it felt like one of the few incomplete parts of the story。I was very pleasantly surprised by The Promise, tho。 Somehow I had forgotten all the post-coloniäl threads left hanging by ATLA but reading The Promise, I realized how necessary they were。 The Promise was like a fourth season (perhaps a slightly shorter one) of ATLA。 With The Search, I had the opposite feeling: it was more like a direct-to-DVD movie than a season。 The children and I enjoyed talking about the revelations about Zuko’s mother, but when we discussed them with my wife, she seemed to think most of it was stated or implied in the series。 I will say that, while I like knowing what became of Zuko’s mother, I don’t feel like I gained a deeper understanding of the series。 Altho Sokka, Katara, and Aang were IN this story, they just said their few lines and were the same from beginning to end。 (They had the right idea leaving Toph out—I think Aang’s skills were necessary, but perhaps Sokka+Katara should’ve sat this one out。) Even Azula—who maybe could not be expected to change—acted pretty much the same as the end of ATLA thruöut。This had interesting elements to it。 The connexion between the Spirit in the story and one of the spirits we met in ATLA made sense。 I liked seeïng the water spirit mask used for its intended purpose。 It was pleasant to see Zuko acting as his reformed self after slipping a little back into his villain role in The Promise。I’ll keep reading the series, but I hope Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Rift is more like The Promise than like The Search 。。。more

The Search is the second graphic novel in the Avatar the last airbender continuation。 This is the much anticipated story of the search for Zukos mother。This graphic novel has amazing pacing there is never a dull moment。 Like the promise before it, it captures the spirit of Avatar。 This is a really well told adventure that is contained, humorous, action packed and has a lot of heart。 The biggest theme of this story is family especially the familial bond between siblings。 Which is why it was perfe The Search is the second graphic novel in the Avatar the last airbender continuation。 This is the much anticipated story of the search for Zukos mother。This graphic novel has amazing pacing there is never a dull moment。 Like the promise before it, it captures the spirit of Avatar。 This is a really well told adventure that is contained, humorous, action packed and has a lot of heart。 The biggest theme of this story is family especially the familial bond between siblings。 Which is why it was perfect to bring Azula into the mix。 Azula provided a constant source of tension and antagonism but remains a complex character that continues to struggle with her Schizophrenia and her bond with her brother Zuko。 Zuko was the perfect protagonist for this story adding a lot of heart and emotion to the central emotional crux of the book。 Team Avatar served well in this book with Sokka as the comic relief, katara and aang as support。 Katara and Sokka especially added to the theme of family。 What surprised me the most was the well written mystery within this graphic novel, it adheres to the world crafted by the shows and incorporates aspects such as the spirits in such a unique and creative way that in the end made up for a genuinely intriguing and well thought out mystery。 The flashbacks especially were incredibly insightful explaining a lot of unanswered questions in the original show and adding a level of depth and rawness to Ursas marriage。 All side storylines never felt out of place as it all connected in the end making this a really well crafted story。 What holds this novel back however is the rather unfulfilling ending and the lack of a real reunion。 However this is called the search not the reunion so I can't remove many points。 I was concerned whether a novel with this much hype behind it can give answers, pay off threads left in the original show and tell an intriguing team avatar story ripe with great character moments however this graphic novel pulls it off。 。。。more

-read for Becca's Bookoplation March 2021 48-hour round-This was for sure improved from the first set of comics。 The Search as a plotline was much deeper than the first one and I think that comes from dealing with a smaller, more personal conflict。 This is directly set up from the show and we finally get to learn the resolution to one of the bigger plot holes that were left in the show。 And let me say, it did not disappoint! This book focuses more on Zuko as a person and how he is fitting into his new role, but also still struggling with doubts about himself, which I liked。 We get to see Azula and dive into her batshit craziness again which I love, and we get the backstory of Zuko and Azula's mom。 It is a new adventure without completely ignoring the events of the last book, and we get to see more familiar characters and meet new ones。 I absolutely love the artwork on the mother of faces, and we love to see Sokka an This book focuses more on Zuko as a person and how he is fitting into his new role, but also still struggling with doubts about himself, which I liked。 We get to see Azula and dive into her batshit craziness again which I love, and we get the backstory of Zuko and Azula's mom。 It is a new adventure without completely ignoring the events of the last book, and we get to see more familiar characters and meet new ones。 I absolutely love the artwork on the mother of faces, and we love to see Sokka and his boomerang。Would recommend?Yes, especially if you are a fan of the show 。。。more

I love Avatar: The Last Airbender and the comics I have read so far, and this story did not disappoint。 I loved it, from the art to the characters (I love them all so much and it’s so good to see them after the show) and the story were so good。 I really just love reading about these characters and this world and so this comic was just right for me。

Just like the Promise, absolutly amazing, touching and important in so many ways。 This book maybe deals with less political and social issues, but instead goes far more into the characters Zuko and Azula, and their relationship。

This story built upon the show so well。 I loved reading it, but definitely wish I could have seen it on television。 This has to be one of the best story arcs in the Avatar world, and Im so happy that Zuko got his time to really shine。

So incredibly good。 The art is amazing, the story and dialog are spot on with the original series, and it definitely does ATLA justice。 Must read for anyone who’s watched Avatar: The Last Airbender。 Hoping for this to be animated with Avatar Studios!

3 stars。This was pretty good。 The three parts that make up this graphic novel focus mostly on the search for Zuko and Azula’s mother (Ursa)。 It flips between the Avatar gang searching for her in current time and showing flashbacks of Ursa’s story。 I was SO happy to have a Zuko-centered story。 He’s my favorite。 I named my cat after him。 The plot was decent。 The story didn’t drag at all, and I was intrigued by the twists that were revealed。 There was a good amount of action that kept the pace。 But 3 stars。This was pretty good。 The three parts that make up this graphic novel focus mostly on the search for Zuko and Azula’s mother (Ursa)。 It flips between the Avatar gang searching for her in current time and showing flashbacks of Ursa’s story。 I was SO happy to have a Zuko-centered story。 He’s my favorite。 I named my cat after him。 The plot was decent。 The story didn’t drag at all, and I was intrigued by the twists that were revealed。 There was a good amount of action that kept the pace。 But。。。 there were just some things that irked me。 While it was satisfying to finally get the full story about what happened to Ursa, the decisions she made at certain points left a bad taste in my mouth。 I don’t necessarily need to agree with characters to enjoy a story, but it felt like the authors were trying to get me to admire her and I just couldn’t。 Also, while it was interesting to have Azula back (I loved her as a villain in the television series), it felt like the authors didn’t really know what they were doing with her。 Yes, I get that she is supposed to be emotionally and mentally unstable, but she kept making really inconsistent decisions that just didn’t make sense。 I’m totally on board for moral ambiguity but in this context it was just confusing and all over the place。 Katara, Aang, and Sakka were there too, but it seemed like they were just along so readers wouldn’t be disappointed without the whole gang。 How they even got involved didn’t make sense。 It was basically “we’re your friends so we will come along!” Don’t you have better things to do as the Avatar? Anyway。。。I would have preferred we just focus on on Zuko and Azula if they had no important plans for the others。And then one of my biggest disappointments was the lack of lighthearted humor in this one。 I always thought this series did so well creating moments that make both kids and adult laugh。 I didn’t so much as snicker reading this。 Sure, it was a more solemn story, but you had the whole gang along for the journey (again, for no apparent reason), so I expected a bit more of the funny banter。 We got some typical moments from Sakka, but I don’t like him very much。 Maybe it’s because Toph was missing。 She cracks me up。 Oh well。This was a good installment in the series, but the authors didn’t use our characters as well as I would have hoped。 Looking forward to continuing, regardless。 。。。more

After reading some of the critique, I can see why everyone didn’t love it the way I do, but I’m not changing my mind about this。 I enjoyed it so much, the parallels are killing me, and my heart is almost dead now。 The spectrum of emotion this short thing get out of me is incredible。 True, some of the plot means are stupid, but the overall plot is good, and the characters are… I just want to hug all of them now。(view spoiler)[But what I really want to talk about is the backlash Ursa is getting he After reading some of the critique, I can see why everyone didn’t love it the way I do, but I’m not changing my mind about this。 I enjoyed it so much, the parallels are killing me, and my heart is almost dead now。 The spectrum of emotion this short thing get out of me is incredible。 True, some of the plot means are stupid, but the overall plot is good, and the characters are… I just want to hug all of them now。(view spoiler)[But what I really want to talk about is the backlash Ursa is getting here。 Sure, I wasn’t happy about her choosing the new mind either, but at the same time I understand it。 I think what most people don’t think about it the fact that she didn’t want to forget her children, but she couldn’t bear the other memories she had from that time。 Why is that? She was married against her will to a man, who forbade her to ever see or even talk about her family again。 Do you really believe he was nice to her? From what we see she was in an abusive relationship for almost 10 years (that abuse didn’t have to be physical…)。 Is it natural that she wanted to forget about it? Yes。 Should she have done it? No, but… it’s understandable。 I was a little disappointed by how it all played out in the end。 I believe that the flow of these old hurtful memories should have made bigger impact on her when they come back to her, but… I can deal with a little disappointment。 (hide spoiler)]Finally knowing to happened feels so good! 。。。more
